Can You Trust IBM’s New Employee Compensation Program?

IBM wants you believe that its “new employee compensation approach” is going to be wonderful, and that you’ll finally be rewarded fairly for your hard work.
Here’s why you can’t trust IBM, and why we need a contract rather than empty promises.

For the last several years, pay increases have been little to none with the bonuses shrinking.
Oh yeah, remember how “variable pay” was changed to “performance bonus”,
only to be changed yet again, hyped now as “growth-driven profit-sharing.”
Already you can see IBM executives like to “innovate” a new scheme-of-the-year,
always changing the plan because they can’t get it right.

IBM also wants you to believe that it’s going to make “Market-Based Adjustments
to sharpen focus on competitive pay” – big words that mean IBM underpays you.
How do they know this? Because “IBM conducts extensive ongoing research,
including participation in…salary surveys.”
Again, fancy words for – IBM confesses it knowingly underpays you.  Please forgive us!

IBM has also been de-banding employees, essentially a demotion by forcing them
into job families with lower pay scales.
Promotions on the other hand are as rare as a Bigfoot sighting.

IBM executives will continue to destroy our jobs here in America and shift them
to lower-cost countries, using the savings to pay for this new compensation scheme.

Remember, too that IBM has changed other programs, such as the pension plan several times, finally scrapping it in favor of a risky 401(K).  Executives claim they can no longer afford it, in spite of the Billions the company makes in profits and spends on stock buybacks.

A lawsuit for age discrimination was filed against IBM.
The company’s claims “vindication” because it won on appeal, but many employees feel cheated since they’re losing a big chunk of their retirement money.
The company also changed the retirement medical plan, again to its advantage, not the employees.
Change, change, change – a lot of it going into the company’s pockets, not yours.

So now the same executives that mistreat you and cheat you want you to trust them to pay you fairly!
We’ve reached the boiling point - employee morale has sunk to an all-time low.
Read the Comments sections of the Alliance@IBM web-site and you’ll see postings
by your fellow employees venting their outrage. The comments expose the low salaries.

The King and His Court of Armonk have likely been sneaking a peak at what you’re saying.

Don’t trust the King and His Court to fix what they’ve broken.

Their promises are like castles made of sand.

Only a contract can provide the solid foundation for job security and decent pay and benefits we all deserve.
