GOP SEEKS TO INCREASE EXEMPTIONS FROM OVERTIME COMPENSATION
Amendments Tied to Increase of Federal Minimum Wage

WashTech learned this week that Republicans in Congress will support an increase in the federal minimum wage if it is tied to an increase in the number of workers excluded from federal overtime laws.

As part of the GOP proposal, an existing exemption from overtime compensation computer workers under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) would be broadened to include even more high-tech workers. By targeting the FLSA, legislators are responding to high-tech industry lobbyists who hope to significantly decrease the number of workers they are legally obligated to pay overtime.
