IBM
Argentina union election update
Thursday, January
14th, 2010
Yesterday in Olivos we completed the second day of union representatives
elections, as the day before, and this time we gathered in front of
the IBM offices from 10 to 18:30hs to make it easier for all the IBM
workers who wished to participate.
In a democratic and participative environment, a lot of workers approached
us to know more about the elections, and finally 99 workers voted
for their union candidates. Some fellow IBMers asked us why there
were no candidates from other IBM buildings, the obvious answer was
"get organized, attend the meetings, so we can have more delegates
as soon as possible".
With the support of these IBMers, three delegates were elected: Christian
Azzi, Hugo Vazquez y Pablo Dorin. Thanks to all who approached us
and cast their vote, and to those who didn't vote but still expressed
their solidarity.
Today we are in Rosario awaiting the participation of those who work
in the area.
We are IBM workers who propposed ourselves as union delegates of those
who work for the company. We are no different from each one of you
who work day by day in IBM, it's just that we decided to change something.
We have received support and solidarity from unionized IBM workers
of the USA, Belgium e Italy: we are not alone in this, and there can
be more of us.
Fraternally,
Amanda Rodriguez, Andres Gonzalez Biront, Carlos Di Pangracio y Fernando
Gutierrez, Delegates of IBM Martinez
Christian Azzi, Hugo Vazquez y Pablo Dorìn , delegates of IBM

Ricardo Fernandez, Nestor Gallego, Leonardo Ludueña, Romina

Saitta, Nestor Taverna y Norberto Leoni, Union delegate candidates

Dear Lee Conrad IWIS International Cordinator
Dear IWIS Partners
The workers from IBM Argentina had initiated a real break
through to defend our rights: A group of more than 150 co-workers had
decided to join the CEPETEL trade union and called (for the first time
in 90 years of IBM's Argentina history) to a workers's representative
election. Not only for IBM recognized workers but also for companies
which provide IBM with outsourcing services.
For the first time a group of decided workers will raise their voice
to defend their rights, we address to you with the purpose of getting
your support at this decisive moment in our organization. Elections
will happen between January 12th and 19th of 2010 at IBM's 7 buildings
in Argentina.
We are workers from different areas, some of us with a lot of years
in the company and others which had joined us in the last few years.
Part of our members are IBMers but also a great part are not recognized
by the company and are part of the "Fraud" generated by IBM,
by the so-called outsourcing. We share the same idea of having a better
place to work, a better environment. We are fighting for IBM to recognize
our every day part in the enormous profit that they make year by year.
We want to take this opportunity to salute those who had been with us
since the beginning . Some of us just became part of this struggle and
recognize that a lot has already been done and a lot is being done for
IBM to stop this kind of practices all over the world. We also know
that we are facing a constant struggle and from this south point of
the Earth we wanted to join this fantastic task that is to organize
ourselves and try to at least change some part of our reality on our
every day job.
In defense of our rights we are brothers in arms.
An injury to one, is an injury to all

Common
declaration by
IBM Network Service Delivery employees, worldwide against the outsource
to AT&T
Supported by national unions, workscouncils and the IWIS
(IBM Workers International Solidarity) global network.
Since the Press announcement of 2 months ago, IBM has not given
to the affected employees sufficient and detailed communication
about the outsourcing of services and workers to AT&T.
We ask together, with one voice, to both IBM management and AT&T
management for:
1) A guarantee of employment, where both companies subscribe and
guarantee the employees will keep their jobs for at least 5 years
(time of the outsourcing contract)
2) voluntary transfers
Furthermore it will be necessary to start , as soon as possible,
a negotiation process with the legal representative employee organizations
or the employees themselves in case representative bodies don’t
exist, about:
* Voluntary transfers (including GOM
applications) from IBM to AT&T– no involuntary transfers
will be accepted. * IBM & AT&T deal and further strategy
* the terms and conditions for the employees to be transferred
* re-entry options back into IBM in case of failure of the deal
* compensation and/or welcome packages
* criteria for selection of employees
If
no news is received from IBM and AT&T in the next few weeks,
we are planning to organize legal, press and public initiatives
against this outsourcing, country by country, and start a possible
union international mobilization (a global actions day).

IBM France Unions
to strike November 13th, over transfer of IBM jobs to AT&T...
November
5th 2007: Mobilization Against Transfers
A national day of action will be taken by unions in France to
draw the attention of staff and government on the transfer of
some 5000 jobs from IBM to ATT (American Telegraph and Telecoms),
in some thirty countries .
In France, some 85 employees at IBM sites Lyon, Montpellier, and
La Gaude, (worst affected with 25 transfers), will move from one
company to another "Without being asked . This is intolerable,
"said CGT delegate from La Gaude, Serge Kerloch who is affected
by this transfer.
The IBM France workers describe
themselves as "pawns of in a game in a dehuminized world".
According to one union member "We do not even know about
the timing of these transfers, or all of the staff concerned."
After the annoncement of forced transfers, the trade unions have
stated that they will oppose by all means these transfers. Unions
involved CFDT, CFE CGC, CGT, FO, SNA, UNSA.

One
month after a virtual protest staged in Second Life with almost
2000 avatars demonstrating on IBM islands, a new contract with
IBM Italy has been signed. The new agreement, which still needs
to be approved by the IBM Italy workforce, reinstates the performance
bonus that was cut unilaterally by IBM Italy management.
