Work increases at MD in Endicott Employees told 20% AWS premium will return Thursday, August 23 2001 Microelectronics panel
manufacturing in Endicott is gearing up for Management claims that the workload increase is foreseen, over the next 5-6 months and full capacity expected. The rest of the year is expectedto be very busy. Some ManPower temporary workers started work Tuesday. As many as 100, over all, for panel and backpanel manufacturing. Employees working 12 hour AWS shifts are told that the 20% premium will be returned. IBM Endicott reduced AWS hours to 36 per week by ceasingSunday work. Management asked AWS employees to volunteer to beginworking Sundays again. Only a few day shift AWS workers volunteered. They are enjoying Sundays off. Nearly all AWS nights workers agreed toSundays again. Most express the need for the extra money, as the reason. Blue Devil work has slowed down. 3rd shift will be ended and perhaps 2nd. Other news of some interest. Some employees were recently fired for what is described as rather minor safety violations. One women was fired forrefusing to remove a wedding band, while working in a inspection department, is one story. Another person it is said, was fired for not wearing safety glasses. Make sure to follow rules. Don't give management reason to fire you or co-workers. |
