965 Employees Laid Off in IBM Global Services "BIS" division

IBM has notified 965 IGS BIS employees that their last day will be November 2, 2001.

Here is one person's story sent to the Alliance office:

• "A coworker of mine just got "surplussed" (October 2, has to be gone by November 2). 15 years of service, best of the batch. She's a widow (in her sixties, I think) and her son in the service just got sent over to Afghanistan. Some company, huh?"

Another letter we received:

• "I am being laid off after 20 years of service and being forced to take the early retirement if I do not find another job within IBM by November 1st. I am a single 54 year old woman. I was told I didn't have the right skills to be kept in the organization."
