May 30, 2002:

We are hearing that the permanent layoffs in IGS will continue on a regular basis, targetting those "on the bench" (without assignments that bill a customer).

May 29, 2002:

Job cuts started in the IGS (IBM Global Services) division today. We have heard from employees cut in Raleigh, Endicott, Poughkeepsie, St. Louis, Minnesota, Florida, Charlotte NC, and San Jose. We have heard that possibly 100-140 jobs were lost n Raleigh today.

Part of IGS called the "East Delivery Center" which has about 1400 employees all over the country, lost 6% of their workforce, or approximately 84 people.

4 of 400 were let go from the Unix group in Poughkeepsie. 50 people cut in Rochester, MN.

We just heard that perhaps 100 were cut this afternoon in Endicott; apparently people were "being walked out the door left and right".

Some employees received e-mail from their manager today that their job was not affected by "today's resource action" (notice the word 'today'). Some are being told "you are not part of the first round" (now that's compassion).

Some employees in IGS in Endicott were called by their remote manager if their job was not cut; those asked to meet with a manager from another site were getting cut.

We expect the IGS job cuts to continue over a few days. The Alliance web site will be updated frequently as we hear more information and can confirm it.

What's up with the 30 to 60 days to "find a new job in IBM"?

One employee who was given 30 days to find another job called a manager in Sterling Forest about an opening. When asked "are you part of a resource action?", the employee answered yes, and the manager said he could not hire him.

Burlington, VT:

Governor Dean met with local IBM Executives on Thursday, but returned to his constituents without much information, other than to say he could not speak about anything that was IBM confidential, and that IBM would remain a presence in Burlington. No more specifics.

One employee in BTV was told by his manager that the IBM plant there was not being sold. However, a Boston securities firm reported that a sale was imminent. Read their story here.

RTP (Research Triangle Park, NC):

There have reportedly been weekly meetings with DBM (Drake Beam and Moran), the job out placement service provided by IBM at the RTP Education site building, for all those in the January layoffs that selected to have DBM services. This past Wednesday the weekly DBM networking meeting was moved to a new room because they just installed about 25+ more computer terminals for use of upcoming layoffs at RTP. The terminals are used for those employees that are terminated and decide to take advantage of DBM out-placement service and do not have home internet services to write resumes and do job searches etc.

It reportedly appears DBM hired a large number of DBM contractors to handle the upcoming work load during the layoffs. Since the RTP Education building already had a large number of computer terminals to handle the January RTP layoffs of about 400 to 500 employees, it appears they are gearing up for a much larger action very soon. Likely rumored to occur on or about May 23rd.

Server Group, iSeries:

The news has leaked out that approximately 85 Server Group employees who work on the iSeries will be offered the "opportunity" to interview for 25 jobs in Rochester, MN.

Endicott, NY:

The Country Club has been reserved for Wednesday and Thursday, May 22-23, presumably for Drake Beam Morin, the outplacement firm.
