NIOSH Peer Review and Public Meeting

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NIOSH, CDC)
is conducting an external peer review of a protocol for a cohort study of persons formerly employed at the IBM facility
in Endicott, New York between 1965 and 2002
.

The health problems to be evaluated in the proposed study include mortality and cancer incidence among workers,
as well as birth defects among offspring of these workers (approx 28,000 workers).

This peer review will be conducted at a meeting which will be a public meeting;
stakeholders and other interested persons will be attending and will be given an opportunity to speak
in the latter portion of the meeting.

 

Public Meeting: November 8, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Place: Broome County Health Department
225 Front Street, Binghamton, New York 13905

The public meeting will be held at the Broome County Health Department in Binghamton, NY.
The meeting will be open to the public, limited only by space available
(the room accommodates approximately 120 people).
The meeting will be announced in the Federal Register.

Preliminary Structure of Meeting - Outline
We anticipate that the meeting will be structured as follows:

9 AM Opening Introduction: Doug Trout
9:15-9:45 Protocol Background – Project Officers
9:45- 12 noon Scientific/technical comments of reviewers and discussion
BREAK – (12:00-1:00pm)
1:00 PM Discussion
1:30 PM Stakeholder comments.
Persons wishing to make comments should notify Doug Trout (at dtrout@cdc.gov) of this interest prior to the meeting.
4:00 PM Adjourn
