UNITES Professionals of India condemn IBM firings

UNITES Professionals strongly condemns IBM dismissing 700 entry-level trainee programmers (ELTPs) across major offices in India. For the following reasons:

Most of these ELTPs, who are engineering graduates are from reputed colleges & Universities with good academic track records, who were selected by IBM after giving IBM's own test & evaluation (does that mean IBM evaluation is faulty ?)

Does IBM need nearly a year to understand those recruited by it and working with them in numerous technology practice groups under IBM India's global delivery business are not good ?

This is clearly a wrong signal that IBM is giving to the youngsters and this needs to be questioned. I would also like to draw attention to these youngsters plight who will loose their self confidence and will need lot of time and energy to coupe with the trauma.

Our request to IBM is stop this process immediately, and gain employees confidence and use the best practises of Human Resources to use if some of the employees are found not up to the mark.

As an ex-employee of IBM I am aware employee evaluation is done once in a year and even if some one gets a very poor rating he/she is entitled for six months time to improve performance under the performance improvement plan of IBM.

I am marking a copy of this to NASSCOM president so he will use his good offices in restoring the job for these youngsters.
